The Houma–Terrebonne Housing Authority (HTHA) is providing this public notice regarding activity at the former senior housing site, Bayou Towers, located at 7491 Park Ave, Houma, LA.

Earlier today, HTHA became aware of debris falling from portions of the exterior panels on the Scott Lane side of the Bayou Towers building. The property has remained unoccupied since August 2021, following Hurricane Ida.

Upon learning of the situation, HTHA officials responded to the site and notified the appropriate local authorities. Houma Police Department officers are on scene, the affected roadway area has been blocked to traffic, and the site is being secured to protect public safety.

HTHA has engaged ONSHORE to remove the fallen debris and assist with immediate site clean-up. Additional evaluations of the building’s exterior will be coordinated as appropriate. At this time, HTHA is not aware of any injuries related to this incident.

Because of the importance of the matter, HTHA has also communicated with the following regarding today’s situation, among others:

  • Houma Chief of Police Travis Theriot
  • Carl Harding, Chairperson, Terrebonne Parish Council
  • HTHA Board of Commissioners
    • Chairperson Cheryl Chauvin-Hebert
    • Vice-Chairperson Danny Picou

We ask the public to avoid the Bayou Towers area near Scott Lane while this work is underway.
